Hector like many of the Coachella Valley members was not born in the Coachella Valley, he immigrated from Mexico for several reasons. He ended up meeting his partner in the Coachella Valley and has now settled there. He is a father, uncle, friend, and one of the many agricultural workers that make up the small community of Mecca.
In the photo above, Hector is in his work clothes. This outfit requires important acknowledgement because it is what a lot of our community members wear on a daily biases(6 days a week, 8-12 hours a day) because of the conditions of their work.
It is now spring time in the Coachella Valley, for MANY around the world this means COACHELLA aka bikini/pool/beer and out door festival weather, but for Coachella Valley natives that are agricultural workers like Hector it means 100+ degree weather, possible dehydration, sunstroke season.
Their work outfits not only have to keep them cool from the 100+ degree weather, but also protect them overall from being out in the sun doing back braking labor for long hours AND ALSO protect their skin from possible rashes that the pesticides the plants they work with are sprayed with.
But we gotta admit, Hectors outfit deserves an A+ on style! His boots that protect his feet from sand getting in match his hat that protect his face from being sunburned, and his long sleeve cotton shirt that keeps him cool and covered match his jeans perfectly. AND COMMON, the sunglasses...this guy is just a cool cat. :)
